What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? A dilapidated shed was attached to the kitchen which housed a washer and dryer. Removing the shed and centering the door transformed the kitchen from dark and dreary to a bright room allowing it to feel much bigger than it actually is.
What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? We got a really amazing deal on walnut cherry cabinets. We wanted the kitchen to be bright but were afraid the cabinets would make the space look dark and small. We went with white walls, counters and penny tile backsplash to lighten the dark wood. We also made the kitchen part of the living/dining room (no wall between them) to allow for a lot of natural light.
What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? The previous owners put their refrigerator in the entryway because it didn't fit anywhere else. It was a jarring first sight to be greeted with. When we renovated, we created an alcove so that there was an unobtrusive place for the fridge. It really helped open up the space.

What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? The largest challenge was realizing a floor plan that helped the flow of the kitchen. In this case, removing a portion of built-in shelving that was an infill of an existing doorway made the kitchen much more functional. (continued)
What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? The kitchen had an awkward layout with three doorways, little counter space, and a bulky fridge and stove directly opposite each other. We added open shelving (so handy!), moved a new counter-depth fridge to where a messy pantry used to be, and opted for a built-in cooktop and oven to further reduce the footprint of the appliances. Now one person can cook while another easily sneaks by. Not to mention we're not stuck in 1980 anymore.
What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? The cabinets were stained "cordovan" color (which completely clashed with the floor), so we just painted them white. This contest's timing was perfect because we'd already started the painting process. The before photo was taken last week, so we're just getting used to our bright new kitchen. (continued)

The inch and a half slope... managed to carve out an extra few inches by the sink by embedding our pantry cabinet in the wall.
