What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? When we moved in three years ago, the kitchen was very dark and crowded. In Portland, we need all of the light and cheer we can get! We installed a glass door, replaced the counters and sink, took out imposing cabinets and put in open shelving. Its' bright and cheerful now — a place where I want to be working!

What's the story of your kitchen?
Our home is a 100 year old farmhouse, 900 sq. feet -- including the attic, where we sleep. The kitchen has some floorspace, but not much counter space. We have one real cupboard, so most everything we have in the kitchen is on display, and I have enjoyed the challenge of making it all as visually cohesive as possible.
What is your favorite meal to cook here?
Breakfast on Saturday morning -- eggs from our chicken Carmen, with onions, greens and fresh herbs from our garden!

This is a kitchen I would love to spend time in. Well done!
Love the color! and the glass jars,it's small but nicely organized.
This seems to be posted in the wrong category.
Regardless, I love it!
I love the colors and all the shelves. The look is sweet.
Great Job!!!
I'm going to be doing open shelves in our kitchen. What did you use? Solid wood boards (and what type, if so)? Plywood sheets cut down? Painted MDF?
Thanks!
How did you mount the dish rack on the wall like that? What an awesome idea!
This kitchen is AWESOME! So colourful and bright and sweet. Great job!
Thanks so much for the kind comments, everyone!
By the way, I think I've been confused with my chicken, Carmen. My name is Ariana, and although Carmen does a beautiful job of filling the egg bowl, she really doesn't deserve all the credit...
Jenny B-- we just used pine boards, sanded down the edges for a softer look, primed and painted. It was a one-day project.
foxor-- the dish rack is from Ikea, and is designed to be wall mounted!
I have a stove exactly like Ariana's. The black front is like a black hole sucking the light out of the room. I love the stove but hate the way it deadens the room's light, especially in mid winter. (I'm in Portland, too.) Any ideas to soften the black front?
I LOVE your counter tops. What a beautiful kitchen!
Thanks a bunch, Ariana!
I am so stealing this kitchen.
i LOVE this kitchen. LOVE.
It's so cheerful & fun, but still functional! Fantastic!
Great colors. Homey kitchen. Win.
Goregeous. I'm rarely wowed by a kitchen, but WoW!
