Q: I'm in need of an olive oil recommendation. I want to try my hand at making olive oil gelato, and I've read that fruity oils make the best gelato. But I'm not well-versed enough in oils to know what to buy. Does anyone have specific brand recommendations for an oil to use in olive oil gelato?

Editor: We noticed this question in yesterday's olive oil roundup, and we thought it deserved its own post.
Readers, any recommendations for a really fruity, delicious olive oil suitable for gelato?

I actually really like the Whole Foods brand (365) organic extra virgin olive oil. Serious Eats did an olive oil roundup a while ago and it was one of the favored brands.
Colonna makes two olive oils with citrus peels pressed along with the olives -- lemon and bergamot.

I'm a Newman's Own girl, myself. But, you might also like to try a fig infused olive oil for the gelato. I think that sounds divine.
Mas de Bories makes really good olive oils and they have a great fruity taste. I use it for dressings and eating with warm bread.
Nicolas Alzieri from France, but good luck trying to find it. Perhaps Williams Sonoma
Depends on what you mean by "fruity". If you mean "tastes like the olive fruit", then I'd say Bariani, especially if you live in CA and can get it at a retail store. If you mean "tastes like other fruits", such as banana, apricot, etc., I don't have a good recommendation.
Spanish olive oils tend to be fruitier than Italian or Californian olive oils. I love Merula, Zoe, or Unio olive oil.
Zoe is great - light and fruity, and...dum dum dum...really reasonably priced.
Ditto fizzyizzy. Trader Joe's has a fairly basic Spanish olive oil that's light green and cloudy. I like it a lot.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I really appreciate it. And thanks Faith for posting my question.
I made olive oil gelato a few months ago and chose to use The Olive Orchard's single-estate, medium-fruity Organic Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil (recipe details in blog link below).
Fortunately, I had access to several luscious olive oils for the gelato. I'm co-owner of The Olive Orchard and we collect the world's best olives oils (according to the annual publication Flos Olei).
On a related note, local ice cream phenom Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams chose our Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil to make her "Olive Oil with Sea Salted Pepitas" seasonal flavor. You should give a try if you can find it!
