When we first heard from Stephanie Polluck over at Cupcake Project there was a moment of silence. It was quickly followed by head scratching and curiosity and then the stomach growling started. A cupcake made with blue cheese, hot sauce and actual chicken, this is one recipe you're just going to have to make to believe.
Each cupcake is topped with a hot wing and the flavors blend perfectly with a cupcake that's topped with frosting that incorporates a little blue cheese.
Even though first appears to be some sort of early April Fool's day joke, this cupcake does instead have a savory flavor. They're slightly sweet (like cornbread) but the other savory tastes pack a punch. These could be a perfect centerpiece for a Super Bowl party, or a snack, side dish or bit of fun for any other party.
Have you wrapped your mind around it yet? Stephanie answers some popular questions over on her blog about this unique creation (which by her own admittance she wasn't expecting to enjoy, but did!).

My first reaction was, not for me but when you mentioned cornbread I started to see the possibilities. Though I would be more tempted to make separate cornbread, blue cheese spread and buffalo chicken separately so as to appeal to vegetarian or finicky eaters.
Sounds gross.
Interesting, but I'd rather just have the hot wings at a Super Bowl party.
Cute idea, but like Verily, I think I'd also rather have just hot wings. With lots of bleu cheese. Especially since with the cupcake, since it's bone-in meat you'd have to eat the hot wing separately anyway.
I could see cute little bleu cheese-flavored biscuits filled with pulled chicken in hot wing sauce, though. That would be cute, bite-sized, and less messy than actual wings. Even though half the fun of hot wings is getting messy and eating with your fingers.
I'm finding it difficult to express just how terrible this seems.

Wow, I'm now completely over cupcakes...
The cupcake fad went downhill. Don't get me wrong, i'll still eat me a good cupcake, but this feels like an SNL skit that goes on 7 minutes longer than it should. Now if people would just begin to embrace the wonder that is PIE. Pie Pie Me Oh My! (let's see who can name the movie that little ditty was in!)
That looks like ten kinds of gross.
I can, in theory, understand how the flavors would go well together. Some corn bread, some cheese, some chicken. But it's the presentation (cupcake complete with piped frosting), that would be the biggest hurdle for me. Taste isn't just about what goes on the tongue.
@KMICHAELO I second
@RUCY ditto
What the French toast?!?
read the recipe - no, no, NO!
Needs bacon...
My initial reaction was "gross." But now i think it's cute and sounds quite tasty.
Someone please hold my hair back because I'm about to start retching. Kind of like my reaction to the recent Swedish fish cake with the *gag* mayonnaise frosting.
Anyone else getting a really annoying ad covering the entire page? I couldn't read the article without reloading.

That's it. Food has jumped the shark.
Over the top, but I guess that's the Super Bowl. I'd laugh if someone served it to me, and I wouldn't expect to eat like this all the time. I don't watch or care about football at all so the likelihood of encountering this for me is zilch.
Yet another reason I am proud to have no interest in football.
This takes the whole cupcake craze a bit too far. As Rucy stated above...I'm over it!
I haven't tried this version (as I dislike most powdered sugar frostings), but I did try the Robicellis version: celery root carrot cake, blue cheese French buttercream, and the buffalo chicken dipped fried chicken on top. Robicellis.com
It still marks one of the highlights of my food tasting life. Every single piece was perfectly composed, yet my brain refused to comprehend the cupcake as a single entity.
As to "cupcakes are over," I disagree. These portable desserts mark both the common everyday, but also provide a platform for higher elevations of cuisine,
If you are going to give credit...at least spell my cousin's name right!! STEFANI POLLACK!!
I made these for the SB and they were a huge hit. I made a dozen cupcakes and brought 2 pounds of wings. The cupcakes were a novelty with the wings being my real contribution to the party, but both were enjoyed equally! The article's a little deceiving since there is no cornbread to be found in these. It is a spicy cake (I used Frank's) with a hint of Blue Cheese and Blue Cheese buttercream frosting.
