We have a toaster at our office that sees regular, extremely frequent use. Our office mates have a habit of bringing bread and English muffins in and toasting them throughout the day for breakfast and snacks.
The thing we like about the office toaster is how the good old Maillard reaction creates that wonderful smell, wafting through the entire office with the caramelly fragrance of toasted bread. We also like the opportunity for a fast hot snack or toast with peanut butter.
Do you use a toaster in the office? Or do you call it a fire hazard and leave it for home?

I love the smell of toast, but in my office the toaster is more of a fire hazard. On several occassions, our interns managed to set the fire alarm off for the entire building by letting crumbs burn in the toaster.
The hallway reeked of burnt toast for the rest of the day
I have a toaster plugged into the power strip in my office for yummy english muffins!
we have an ancient toaster at work which looks great, but goes from golden brown to on fire in less than five seconds. Despite our warnings each new addition to our group fills the hallways with smoke the fist time they use it. One day the building will burn down and we'll all pretend we never saw it coming.
We had one where I used to work at, loved the smell of toast whenever anyone would make it. Never had a problem in our office with smoke alarms, but there were some others in the buidling who would set them off and leave the smell of burnt toast behind them.
But how about the people that make super-fragrant microvae popcorn in the afternoons?
We have a rule, you must stand next to the toaster while toasting, no kidding in the employee manual. We get a new toaster every couple of years and clean out the crumbs. I like have one at work. We have a not nuts rule as a number of people have deadly allergies.
