Remember Borough Furnace? We showed you these modern, gorgeous cast iron skillets last year. The catch, at the time, was that they were just prototypes, designed by two friends who want to produce cast iron skillets by hand. Now they're on Kickstarter — looking for crowdsourced startup funding. This is your chance to support a small company and get a little something back, too!
The two young designers behind Borough Furnace are trying to raise $25,000 to build their own foundry and production facility, and to produce their first line of cast iron pieces. Here's a little of what they have to say:
We have been developing our line of cast iron products for over a year now. Our designs and our production process are ready to go big time. Well, bigger time. Our goal is to develop a new kind of small-scale American manufacturing, and we're starting in the kitchen.
This means creating more than simply one product. We plan to build a micro-foundry and prototyping studio that gives us the ability to explore new cast iron products and objects – retooling and making our own production molds for each new piece.
We think this is pretty cool — handmade, stylish cast iron cookware, and a company you can support from the ground up. If you are interested in supporting their project then check it out at Kickstarter:

There are various levels of support requested, from $10 to $1000 and each comes with a little treat once the project is funded — from a secret cornbread recipe to a full set of cast iron cookware.
