Remember those stunning images of deconstructed recipes from IKEA's Homemade is Best cookbook? Carl Kleiner, the photographer behind those shots, is back for another round: this time with IKEA tableware.
Only a few images have been released so far, but they all share a similar hyper-styled, carefully balanced feel. The overhead shots come across as both elegant and whimsical. It feels almost as if the plates and silverware are going to start dancing around the table é la Disney's Sorcerer's Apprentice.
While none of us will probably be setting our tables quite like the ones in these pictures any time soon, there are some takeaways. I love the color combinations, especially the gray and blue plates on the dark blue cloth with the pops of magenta color from the flowers. These images also inspire me to play around with shapes, like tear-drop bowls with the round serving platters and the mix of rectangular and circular plates.

I feel like the composition in all of those is lacking something. Even the ones that are meant to be beauitufl, like the featured photograph in this post and the one with the all-white dinnerware on white table, feel like they are lacking something. I can't put my finger on it . . .
I thought the first pic was computer generated. These images lack warmth. Missing organic feel, missing texture. I don't find it attractive.
Food! That's what they are missing! I really enjoy the color combo in the first picture.
I love how everything is so precisely placed, spaced, and organized. Symmetry and balance make me happy.
