It's time! No matter where you live, it's probably warm enough to plant tomatoes. Here's one of my favorite heirloom varieties. This indeterminate tomato (gardener-speak for, "Starts growing and doesn't stop pushing out tomatoes until the frost slams in") produces dark, beefy tomatoes that are nearly black inside and taste a little smoky. It's the sweetest August treat.
May be available from a local nursery. If you can't find it locally, this mail-order source is reasonably reliable.

I've heard nothing but good things about these tomatoes; if you can't find the plants but live in an area where planting seeds late is fine because summer lasts until October (home state TX, I'm looking at you), Parks seeds sells them under the name Black from Tula in an heirloom variety seed pack with several other wonderful indeterminate tomatoes.
Oh, I just planted one of these this year! It is already growing fast, it's in one cage but I've already ordered another cage to stack on top of it.
I grew one of these last year and couldn't wait to start another one this year. These grow very large so don't plan on staking it up with some of your garden variety (hee!) stakes/cages.
i've grown this variety for several years now - very reliable, and just awesome in a tomato sandwich.
Planted one for the first time this year, can't wait for the tomatoes to come!
