It seems like we get a question from a reader nearly every week on what to eat for breakfast. The constraints are always the same: fast, cheap, easy to grab on the way out the door. We generally recommend things that can be baked ahead and frozen, like muffins. But every now and then, a product also catches our attention. Like this Biotta breakfast juice.
Juice for breakfast? Hmmm. Biotta asked us to try out some of their juices, and we were skeptical on this one -- a juice that claimed to be enough for breakfast. You can see what's in it: plenty of natural juices and agave extract, tea, and honey. This is to be expected from Biotta, who has been around since 1931 and has built up a reputation in Europe for natural and organic juices.
We were intrigued by their product line of some unique juices, including elderberry and beet. But we were skeptical of the health claims (can a juice really do all that?).
We were pleasantly surprised by how filling the breakfast juice was, though. It had a pleasant balance of rich banana flavor and orange juiciness. We enjoyed it quite a bit, and it filled us up until lunch, which we admit was slightly earlier that day.
Overall we've enjoyed these juices a lot, and if faced with a choice between a sugary pastry and a juice, we might go for the juice now. But we are even more interested in playing around with the beet and elderberry juices and seeing what we can cook up with them.
What about you? Do you ever just drink juice for breakfast? And what about Biotta? What do you think of their products?

Blend a smoothie, feel more satiated and get the benefits of a fiber. Just toss some fruit -and perhaps vegetables - in a blender, and you're ready to go. Both are easy on the digestive system, too.
I actually love their breakfast juice! I picked it up at Whole Foods one afternoon and its quite yummy! Ideal for me to bring to work & throw in the fridge. I even use it within my Sunday Morning Brunch mimosas.
I can't help but think of Michael's Pollan's warning not to eat (or drink) anything that makes health claims on the label. :-) Not that I think everything Michael Pollan says should be followed like dietary law. Of course not.
Sounds like it's good juice, and best of luck with it! Me, I'm strange about drinking calories - I don't like to do it, unless there's some (ahem) benefit, let's say. This is why I'll think nothing of sucking down 500 calories of beer in a night, but shudder at the thought of orange juice (80 calories per cup!zomg!).
Also, I prefer to chew something for breakfast. But that's me; to each his own. :)

Oddly enough, I knew a guy who swore by Biotta beet juice as a morning pick-me-up after all-nighters.
I can just hear my mother - "you need protein in the morning!"

I know everyone has different lifestyle needs, but fast and easy to grab on the way out the door are self-imposed constraints.
It only takes 5-10 minutes to make your own eggs or whip up a healthy and filling bfast. You can make multi-grain pancakes or oatmeal in advance and reheat quickly. It will require some planning and change in habits to make it a frequent occurrence.
