Today it's as easy as a click of a button to purchase a holiday gift for friends or family. But, we might argue, not nearly as special as if you made them something yourself.
Most of us probably have moments where we plan on making everyone a little something for the holidays. Maybe you're going to make jars of apple butter or crochet coasters or bag up your famous granola with pretty twine. And then all of a sudden you're staring down December and realizing it may not happen just the way you wanted. Well we have an intervention. We've gathered a few of our favorite simple recipes for edible DIY gifts this year that you can do in a day. Purchase your ingredients, put on some good tunes, make a few batches of your chosen treat, and mail them off the next day. We even included a few of our favorite packaging ideas. So here's to special, homemade gifts for everyone this year.

The link for Homemade Nutella didn't work for me but as an alternative source David Lebovitz has an excellent recipe for it on his site:

Another recipe gift I like to make is Irish Cream, Baileys-style.
1 cup light cream (or heavy cream or mix of the two)
1 can (14 ounce size) sweetened condensed milk
1 2/3 cup Irish Whiskey
1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
Mix well in blender. Store in glass container (I use interesting bottles with rubber stoppers for gift giving) and keep in fridge. I've heard it can last up to two months, but, in my experience, it all gets enjoyed long before that.
Yes, the link to the homemade Nutella is broken!
I finally made Vanilla Bean extract this year. Can't wait to use it. Almost ready!
The mulling sachets are so easy to make. I put mine in a mason jar, wrapped in red & white baker's twine.
