Kitchen renovations increase the value of your home, no matter where you live. When you sit down at the drawing board it's easy to want to make drastic changes that feel opposite from what you are currently living with. This space makes modern updates that still allow it to stay light and bright, but add a touch of warmth as well.
Over at Beach Brights they've been busy in the kitchen. Although it functioned just fine before, they thought the space needed a little push to be a bit more inviting. Although most will say a renovation is brought to life by new cabinets, in this case, it was the floor that makes the space the most inviting.
Warm wood is now accented nicely by a glowing pendant light, new fixtures, rugs and Roman shades for the floor and more. The cabinets were kept white, but were changed out to something a little more modern. Their clean lines help keep this long and lean kitchen feel welcoming and not constricting.

This is a major renovation though, new cabinets, they tore out the bulk head, what part of this reno is still original?
The lower cabinets are the same. Love the new look. Incredibly refreshing :)
This looks like a major reno. New cabinet uppers, added can lights, new floors, new appliances, new sink, new tile backsplash, new countertops.
I think the lower cabinets are new too. Nice reno, but misrepresented in the post.
Hmm - I'd agree with hdwk......
the lighting along with the warm wood floors made the biggest difference i think. gotta love good lighting. i don't really see how the renovations were misrepresented in the post. i think the point that the post was making is that even with the new cabinets and all, the kitchen overall stayed with the same color scheme and layout.
It also helps that the "after" post includes personal items like the rug, the table, plants. And I sure wish the before and after were photographed from the same spot!
I think the post has been revised. When I first looked at it in google reader it said something about not ripping everything out, which is I think what the earlier comments were referring to.
I agree with lazy_lurker. I hate when the before and after photos are from completely different angles. It makes it hard to compare.
If you click through, you can see the before and after shots from the same angle. You can also see that LITERALLY everything in the room is different. New cabinets, new appliances, new sink, new lights, new hardware, new profile/overlook into the living room, and even a new kitchen door.
Nice, but more in the neighborhood of a 20k redo.
First of all, I am completely honored to be featured on this amazing site. Thank you Sarah.
If you click on the link to my blog that is provided in the article, you can see tons more pictures, at the same angle.
I also break down the cost. Which by the way is not a dime over $10k, labor & materials included my friends. Thank you Ikea and my drywall whisperer, Raul. If you live in Houston, I can totally hook you up!
