Over the years we've taken a look at many kitchen makeovers. In this room, everything was done by the homeowners. From painting the tile backsplash and cabinets to installing new lighting and linens, this kitchen has it all — come see how they transformed it from basic (and kind of boring) to bright, white, and aqua!
Jen at Tatertots and Jello was looking for a fresh take on her kitchen. She wanted to open the place up and add a little light and bright to the mix. That's exactly what she got when she started in with a little paint.
Now there are painted curtains, pillows, cabinets, even the tile backsplash. There's new lighting, the backs of the cabinets have gone blue and the family's organization center in the space looks fantastic and feels organized and free of clutter. It's a makeover that's truly best viewed in all the pictures of the details. Check out the ones above and see if there's any diy tips you might be able to apply to your own space.

Red-and-Pink-Stripe...

Love it! I like the cabinet converted to open shelving and how much brighter everything looks after being painted.
I like the before better.
I like it "before". :) It is more cozy and less commercial looking.
What an awesome transformation. That white is so bright and cheerful...and lovely pops of blue. Gorgeous!
I like most of the after. I would think it would look better with the old chairs, painted white. The silver stools look too modern or something. I do like the brightness of the kitchen though and the yellow and aqua accents are great together.
I'm definitely a fan of the 'after'! It's bright, but I don't think it's at all commercial or sterile-looking, just happy.
Overall, I like the change. I especially like the pope of yellow and black.
I also agree that the chairs would work better than the metal stools. I think ti's a little too light and airy, and bringing a few bolder, darker pieces back in would ground it more.
Too white. Love the countertops. Hate the stools.
I think putting some of that bright tea-kettle yellow on the walls would help. It would make the bits of yellow in the countertops pop!
Not a fan--all that white is hurting my eyes. And those stools look incredibly uncomfortable.
Oh, gorgeous. It's so bright, and I love the blue touches.
It was cozy and comfortable looking before...now it looks like something Google designers would create...way too much bright white and dark marble contertops....cold and impersonal and looking like its lost from the 70's. .
I LOVE it. I can barely believe it is the same kitchen.
Looks great, but I would have painted the island white instead of aqua to maintain the cohesiveness. also, that counter now seems offensive with everything so pristine looking.
I love a white kitchen but I think I like the "before" better. Overall I have little love for granite and that brown mottled granite is the worst offender. At least when everything was brown and warm the granite wasn't as noticeable. With the white kitchen it just looks out of place.
Lovely, so much better updated. The before looked very dated. What a great improvement!
