This kitchen remodel shows off one of our favorite tricks in making a kitchen look bigger. It also happens to make the kitchen much more functional. Do you know what it is? We talked about it here, too.
If you look at the before pictures, you can see how the cabinets didn't go all the way up to the ceiling. Unlike in a lot of kitchens, it wasn't just empty space up there (where dust bunnies live, breed, and grow into dust rabbits). It looks like the wall just extended above the cabinets.
The new cabinets offer more storage and make the room feel much larger, in our opinion. Same goes for the cabinet that was built around the refrigerator. How practical is that? And it adds so much usable space, including a wall for a bulletin board.
We also love the wide drawers below the glass-front cabinets. They, too, give the room a gracious, open feel, more so than a ton of small doors and knobs.

LOVE!!!!
What an amazing makeover!
Love, love, love it!!
Beautiful! Those new, big windows in the nook make a big difference, too.
So pretty! Love how the windows in the nook look more authentic than what they replaced.
Jealous.
Count me jealous, too. We have hideous saltillo tiles that are never coming up so long as we are the ones living here. Boo.
I don't mind cupboards not going all the way to the ceiling if it's possible to use the space on top. Unfortunately, the house we moved into only has about 8" between the cupboards and ceiling and I find it on the list of top three annoying things about my kitchen. (I actually have a pretty nice kitchen, considering I had no say in it.)
I'm totally bookmarking this for ideas when the time comes to redo the kitchen.
Lovely kitchen remodel...
One thing though really, REALLY, bugs me: those hideous fake-old kitchen taps. Simple, functional and clean-lined taps from the Chicago Faucet company would have looked much better.
Hate things that mis-interpret historical shapes and products -- neither old nor modern, they are just plain ugly.
I love the blue bowls in the first photo. Anyone know where they are from? I'd love them for my kitchen.
Anyone know where I can get that rug? Love the colors!
Beautiful! They put some money into it. It looks like they even added a window or two.
