Want something fun and boozy to serve with the dessert buffet at your holiday party? Look no further. Fruit lambics are always a crowd-pleaser, and this cherry lambic from Belgium's Brouwerij Boon is one of my favorites.

Beer Details: Boon Kriek from Brouwerij Boon, Belgium (cherry lambic, 4% ABV)

Appearance: Pours a deep cherry red with a thin film of pinkish-lavender foam.

Aroma: The cherry jam aromas wafting from the glass are so strong I want to spoon it over toast.

Taste: This beer is pure cherry in a glass. It tastes more like fizzy cherry cider than a typical malty beer. It's sweet, for sure, but with a nice smack of pie cherry tartness. For a spontaneously fermented beer, this is very clean-tasting. Some of that wild yeast mustiness comes out as the beer warms and makes a nice compliment to the jammy cherry flavors.

This beer could have a little more complexity and funk for my taste, but as an after-dinner drink that will go with dessert (or over dessert!) and send guests home happy, it does just fine.

Food Pairings: I'd love this with a big slice of chocolate cake or other dark chocolate dessert.

What do you think of this beer?
