Beadboard is a traditional material that was once installed as separate boards. Today, the availability of beadboard-look sheeting products makes this look easier (and more inexpensive!) than ever to achieve for a cottage-y look in the kitchen. Take a look:

• 2 Backsplash: Brittany's New Bright White Portland Kitchen
• 3 Wall: Kitchen Spotlight: Lori's Serene Farmhouse
• 4 Ceiling: Inspiration: Coastal Kitchens and Dining Rooms
To get the look yourself, you can go to a range of places, from the big box home improvement stores to more specialized historic material suppliers like Dyke's Lumber.

I chose to use beadboard as an affordable solution to update our kitchen - and it looks awesome! I decided to hire a carpenter to make some nice, bracketed open shelves (vs. the same price for cheap cabinets!) & it was the best decision ever.
We're almost finished... I should send in some "makeover" photos once it's complete.
Beadboard does look great! My parents' kitchen has all white cabinets, and we just installed a beadboard bathroom storage unit next to the sink to use as a spice cabinet. Believe it or not, it blends in just great and serves its purpose perfectly! Now my spices are super-easy to access, alphabetically organized and visible at a glance.
A beadboard tub is my dream.
