What with all the talk of turkey, sweet potatoes, and pie, bread is often a last-minute decision for Thanksgiving. Who needs bread when there's stuffing? Well, in my family, that is not the case. My mom's potato dough rolls are one of the most coveted (and hoarded) items on the table. Bread seems essential on Thanksgiving, to sop up leftover gravy and to slather with homemade butter. Here are a few good bread recipes from the archives to fill out your table (and the bread basket).
TOP ROW
• 1 No-Knead Bread in a Hurry - Fast, easy, tastes like artisan bread of the highest quality.
• 2 No-Time Bread - Even faster yeast bread.
• 3 Cheddar and Chiles Bread - A no-knead recipe.
• 4 Double Corn Bread with Smoked Mozzarella and Sun-Dried Tomatoes - Cornbread goes very well with most Thanksgiving dishes!
• 5 Yeast-raised Cornbread - From 101 Cookbooks.
MIDDLE ROW
• 6 Potato Dough Rolls - My mom's recipe. Totally delicious.
• 7 Parmesan Rolls - A simple recipe from Gourmet.
• 8 Touch of Grace biscuits - Utterly irresistible biscuits from Shirley Corriher (by way of Orangette).
• 9 Angel Biscuits - Can't decide between rolls and biscuits? Try these yeasted biscuits.
• 10 Two-Ingredient Biscuits - If you're really in a hurry!
BOTTOM ROW
• 11 My Mother's Irish Soda Bread - A classic soda bread. No rising required.
• 12 Oatmeal Toasting Bread - Hearty, healthy, and great as toast.
• 13 Easy Ethereal Popovers - Picture popovers filled with gravy and turkey. Oh yum!
Now, need butter to go with your bread?
• How to make butter - Takes five minutes and a mixer (or food processor, or blender, or jar...)
• Honey Butter - Sweet and creamy.
• Browned Butter - Dark and toasty.
What about you? Do you have bread on the Thanksgiving table, or do you think it's overkill? If there's a bread basket, what's in it?

This year I'll be attempting those popovers for my family. I was intrigued by the original post and figured I'd just use a muffin pan...then, two nights ago I swung by Ross and there sat one popover pan just waiting for me! It's meant to be! I'm going to go for homemade butter, too!
lol...how appropriate! Last year my husband and I attended Thanksgiving dinner at his Aunt's house. Little did I know that she is an Atkins dieter! There was NO bread! No dinner rolls. No corn bread. No biscuits. Coming from a family that adores all carbohydrates, I was devastated. Flash forward to this year...we are again attending his Aunt's dinner and I will be going to the grocery store tonight to prepare my own "bready-goodness"! Thanks for the great ideas!
I'm going to make your Mom's potato dough rolls, and I can't wait! I will be putting the dough together tonight so that I can be ready to go on Thursday. Can't wait!
I made those popovers last night using a mini muffin pan, they turned out great!! my parents and I gobbled them all up. (we eventually reverted to putting scharffen berger tasting squares inside...how delicious!!)
We're making angel biscuits. Yum!
We always have bread at family dinners. It's my Mom-Mom's (grandmother's) recipe for French baguettes. My brother and I call it Mom-Mom's Bread, but my younger cousin calls it Oval Bread because of the shape of the slices. It wouldn't be a family gathering without it!
