You can't go wrong with a batch of cookies for a summer picnics. They're universally loved, perfectly packable, and impervious to sun damage (unlike our other favorite: ice cream). Here are ten cookie recipes that deserve to be at your next picnic.
• Raspberry Cream Sandwich Cookies from Martha Stewart - Given our fondness for sandwich cookies, this one is a quick sell.
• Louisiana Pecan Balls from Sunset Magazine - These sound deliciously similar to Mexican wedding cakes.
• Watermelon Sugar Cookies from Megan's Cookin' - Too cute!
• Cherry Double Chocolate Cookies from Gourmet - Chock full of cherries, chocolates, and crunchy nuts.
• Peanut Butter Crunch Cookies from Real Simple - Classic peanut butter cookies pick up some crunch with rice krispies!
• Black and White Cookies from Smitten Kitchen - I've always wanted to attempt making these classic New York cookies at home.
• Petite Lemon Curd Cookies from Epicurious - I fear I may eat a great many of these "petite" cookies.
• Lime Sugar Sandwich Cookies with Blueberry Cream Filling from Tasty Kitchen - I would make these for the bright purple filling alone.
• Double Ginger Crackles from Fine Cooking - Perfect with a glass of lemonade.
• Chocolate Nutella Cookies from Simply Recipes - This recipe is about the only reason I'd voluntarily part with a cup of Nutella.

The pastry chef girlfriend has been making chocolate chip cookies rolled into a ball and dipped in a schokinag glaze.
Messy, sometimes she puts them on stick so I'm not covered like a two-year old.

How about a simple oatmeal chocolate chip for that summer picnic. I just made some. : h
I never thought of cookies as summer food; we always look to summer desserts with fresh, seasonal fruit in the summer: crips, crumbles, buckles, grunts, shortcakes, pies, ice cream or frozen yogurt, custards, or just straight up. (Though the frozen stuff isn't the best choice for picnic packing, as noted.)
I'm not being snarky, just genuinely surprised as I've never thought of cookies as picnic food before.
I like dry, unmelty cookies for travel, like peanut butter or oatmeal raisin.
I'm loving these caramel apple cookies: http://modernmealsfortwo.com/?p=140
