Here's a piece of spring morning whimsy. Do you remember this very hungry caterpillar cake? It was such a cute idea, and so well-done. Well, if you'd like to bake a caterpillar cake of your own, there's now a cake pan just for that.
We're slightly unsure whether we'd actually prefer this over the original version, which just used decorated cupcakes. But this particular pan from Williams-Sonoma might be better for those of us who aren't so good at decorating.
The pan bakes eight cakelets that come together to make a caterpillar, and there's even a separate decorating kit available with wiggly eyes, colored sugar, and licorice for feelers. You can make a creepy garden caterpillar or a more friendly-looking cake. Although, doesn't that one up top look sort of creepy in its cheeriness? The pan is made exclusively for Williams-Sonoma by Nordic Ware.
What do you think? Thumbs up or down?

Cake pan is on sale in stores for 29.99.
And it does double duty as a mold for meatballs. :) We just put our meatloaf mix into the wells, and it made perfect portions.
Wow, that's creepy. Good idea on paper, but I don't know if I could handle a platter full of that!
