Q: Are there any phone apps that will help me keep track of prices and sizes so that I can be a better comparison shopper at the grocery store? I frequent three different grocers in my town (and Costco every few months), and such an app would be very handy.

Editor: Readers, do you know of any apps that make it easy to comparison shop at various supermarkets?

Yes there is! I am the community manager for an app called CartCrunch, www.CartCrunch.com. Right now the app serves custom coupons and circulars based on past purchases, but in about a month, we will have the functionality to do just what you are asking for.
I've been searching for something similar, but I don't think you will find a free variant. The best I've seen is Grocery King on Android. I don't have a data plan, so it's difficult to know how this will operate on my tablet, but the reviews seem to be good. I've tried many apps and have been disappointed because they don't let me store prices per store.
I have Mighty Grocery, which allows you to enter the prices of items and save it for later, in addition to saving recipes and coupons. It will even calculate the cost of your planned grocery list! I've used both the free and full version, which is $5. I think $5 was worth it.
I've been using (and loving) Out of Milk for a couple months. They just recently added the ability to see sale flyers from all your neighborhood grocery stores. It's a pretty cool app that has really helped me cut down on my impulse shopping.
Great question! I couldn't find anything either so I created a spreadsheet in Excel for the most frequently purchased items and the prices at different stores and took a picture of it to keep on my phone. It's handy, but an app would definitely be better!
I use PriceMouse. You have to log the prices and sizes and such by yourself, but it's super easy to do - I've definitely saved money using it this past year.
Hmm--I was all excited to check out your suggestions (thanks!) but it seems that none of them are available in Canada.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
And will I be able to get it in Canada?
(Or possibly they'd be available in Canada, but not for the iPhone)
I came across Flyerbug.com recently. New startup with a promising idea. A social platform to share and compare grocery prices, like an online grocery price book with user submitted prices. They have an iPhone and Android app...looks like they're just started but I like the idea, and will be following them closely.
