Wood finishes in kitchen design are generally limited to butcher block countertops and flooring. But what about using wood as a backsplash?
When properly sealed and maintained, wood can be used for a backsplash. It makes for a great diy backsplash material because of its workability. A few simple woodworking tools and you can make yourself a backsplash of your own design. In the gallery above, we've collected a few examples of wood used in kitchen backsplashes.
Like the look but squirmish about having a wood backsplash so close to the kitchen sink? Consider the possibility of wood in one place with more conventional tile at the sink! Or, check out faux woods, as seen in the Poggenpohl kitchen in the last image above.
Would you apply this material as a backsplash in your kitchen? Why or why not?

i prefer wood in decor over any more modern material. these are chic and modern looking, definitely a DIY project in my future!
My parents' backsplash is wood, and I've always loved it.
Forget about the backsplash and let's talk about the ceiling in the first picture - GORGEOUS. (I think a backsplash would be fine, too, but it would take some getting used to.)
I have ceramic tile that is made to look like wood! Easy to clean.
How timely - we are just now deciding on what we want as a backsplash. Inspiration!
Hmm, our backsplash was painted beadboard when we moved in, and while that seems like a good-looking and affordable option, we've covered the area behind the sink and stove with sheets of stainless steel. It was too hard to clean off the spatters behind the stove, and the area behind the kitchen just got soggy. Maybe if you're not as messy as us?
