Oh, how I'm a sucker for a pretty cake stand. But gather too many in your kitchen and you find you're rarely using many of them. Here are a few ideas for using those that aren't on dessert duty:
- On the countertop. Use a cake stand out on the counter to store those oft-used staples for quick and easy use.
- In the bathroom. Use a cake stand in the bathroom to store and display your nice-to-look-at toiletries.
- On the vanity. By placing a cake stand on a dresser or vanity and filling it with jewelry, makeup, and perfumes, you create an instant station for getting ready in the mornings.
- Candle holder. Arrange candles on a cake stand for an elevated, romantic centerpiece on the table.

Something to look for when I'm at a rummage sale!
LOVE it on the vanity!
I have a glass trifle dish that sits on my kitchen counter and holds all my coffee K-cups for my Keurig coffee maker. Perfect, since I only need my trifle dish once or twice a year!
I need to find a cake stand with a cover big enough to hold my 6 layer cakes first...
My wife is going to a wedding shower and the bride requested a footed cake stand with a lid from BedBath. The foot is removable and the plate is reversable with one side sectioned. This one can be used as a punch bowl by inverting the cover, crudités etc with dip, and the dome can be a cover, a 'salad fixing bar' using the inverted dome as the salad bowl and the plate as the 'fixings.' It's 'essentials for the home' and it's sort of clever.
I keep fresh fruit on mine when not on cake duty.. pretty!
I use mine as bookends for my cookbooks!
I use a small square martha stewart cake stand to hold all of our different bitters on our bar:
