Kitchens are so fun to personalize, yet often kitchens still end up looking cookie cutter and rather boring. It was so refreshing to see Alan Gonzalez's kitchen, because he dared to think a little more creatively about the surfaces and finishes used in his space.
Alan certainly isn't afraid of black and frequently uses it throughout this home. He painted an entire wall with chalkboard paint in the kitchen — it creates the drama he was after while still serving a purpose.
The juxtaposition of the OSB walls, stainless steel cabinetry and white countertops is astounding. The cabinets and countertops are so sleek and refined while the OSB is rustic and abrasive (in a refreshing way).

Maybe not my personal style, but good for Alan for making it so very much his own. Living in the suburbs, everything looks the same, so it's a bit refreshing that way. And that huge expanse of counter top? I'm so jealous!
I really like the contrasting look of the chalkboard paint, stainless steel, and plywood. Looks very industrial, but in a very organic way (hah!)
Unpainted OSB always looks unfinished to me. Every time I see it used like this, it makes me think the kitchen is still under construction. As someone who spent much of her childhood in a house with a half finished kitchen, this is not a good thing.
Dig the stainless steel and chalkboards very much, the mirrors on top spoiled it though.
i have to agree with rosecampion, the osb walls just made me think that the kitchen is still being worked on...but good for alan for making his home into what he wants!
