About Us

What Is The Kitchn?

Welcome to The Kitchn! The Kitchn is a blog devoted to home cooking with a committed monthly following of over 3 million readers. We publish around 20 short articles daily that address the needs and desires of real home cooks.

We offer recipes — but we go far beyond them, too, breaking down the cooking process to help people learn more about their kitchens and their food. You will find tips, techniques, tutorials, bright ideas, and inspiring menus and meals. We share good ideas from readers, and beautiful kitchens to inspire improvements and renovations. We are interested in every aspect of home cooking, from finding the best tools to the most durable flooring for the kitchen to the best recipes for weeknight cooking.

This is a site for people who like to get their hands dirty while they cook. It is for those who care about the quality of their food, and how it affects the health of themselves and the planet. It is also for those who want to cook more, but are shy in the kitchen. It's a place to dive in deep, and embrace the joy of one of our basic needs: Food, cooked at home, nourishing ourselves and our households.

Who Is The Kitchn?

The Kitchn was founded in 2006 by Maxwell and Sara Kate Gillingham-Ryan, also the founders of The Kitchn's parent site, Apartment Therapy.

Today The Kitchn is created by a vibrant, diverse team of writers, recipe developers, and photographers from across the country. The site is overseen and edited by Faith Durand, executive editor, Cambria Bold, managing editor for products and provisions, and Emma Christensen, associate recipe editor.

Where Should I Start?

There are thousands and thousands of posts on The Kitchn, so jump right in! There are resources here for new cooks and experienced cooks — tips, ideas, techniques, and videos. There are recipes for simple food and fancy food, and good cooking to carry you through every season of the year.

There's inspiration for those of us who live with tiny rental kitchens, and ideas for that dream kitchen you'll create someday.

We try to focus on the tools that will last, examining and reviewing the best of the kitchen gear available in local stores and markets. We love talking about ingredients — what's delicious, what's smart, what's economical.

And every day we bring you our thoughts and reflections, musings and short writings from a diverse team of writers and home cooks. But these are only a springboard for the experiences of you, our readers. We hope you join in the conversations we start here — offering your own opinions and encouragements.

If you want to get an overview of everything we have in our archives, check out our Category Index; it's helpful for browsing.

How Can I Contribute?

The Kitchn is written by a small, steady team of freelance writers and we do not at this time accept unsolicited freelance submissions. However, we do hire from time to time, so keep an eye on our Job Listings for future postings.

If, however, you are a reader or a blogger who would like to share a kitchen project or recipe link from your own site with our audience, we would love to hear from you! We also are always accepting questions from our readers, which are published in our Good Questions column. Click the link below to contact us with any of these!
