It's one of the truest, simplest forms of luxury in a home: the ability to gaze out of a window while doing the dishes. We always look for this sink-window duo when scouting out an apartment or house. And, while we don't always end up with it (in fact, there are lots of homes where the sink is not at a window), we certainly always dream of it:
The sink under the window was rounded up by Kristen before, but we can't help but revisit the subject as the weather's turned warm and our thoughts move toward the outdoors. These are a few more beckoning sink-window combos in kitchens from our archives:
FIRST ROW:
• 1 The scrollwork and casement windows here are our favorites from Michael & Danijela's Modern Minimal Milwaukee Home
• 2 A jalousie window in Tina's Port Douglas Cottage
• 3 A perfect place for plants in Pablo & Rob's Woodsy Wanderlust
• 4 The window is like a picture frame at James and Julie's Bernal Beauty.
• 5 This small sink is made bigger by its nearby window at Ingrid's Wood and Wool Wonderland
SECOND ROW:
• 6 The sink in The Dastrup's Brass Is Back Four Square isn't centered on a window, but is flanked by two!
• 7 Those tulips have to make any task a pleasure at kitchen sink of LaurieAnna's 30s Cottage Kitchen Makeover
• 8 True to its namesake, in Anne and Chris' Light-Filled Modern, plenty of light streams in through double windows.
• 9 Even without a window, there's a window in Jeff & Delia's Gourmet Garage.
• 10 The quintessential window over sink in Holly's Sophisticated Fifties Homage

In architecture school, it was taught that the kitchen sink should always be under a window. It was held as a hard-and-fast rule. I couldn't agree more.
Then, um, some of us would not have a kitchen sink at all.
I chose an apartment with an older stove so that I could have a window over my sink...I'm much more likely to do dishes willingly!
I'm about to have a window over my kitchen sink for the first time in four years and I couldn't be more excited about it! At my last two apartments I coped by hanging art over the sink at one, and a platter from a set of old dishes my grandmother gave me at the other (with cabinets above, the platter fit the space perfectly). It helped immensely just having something to look at.
There is a window over my sink, but it looks out onto the neighbors similar kitchen windows. At least I can see the sky ;)
My sink overlooks the living room which has multiple windows and is centered on a 55" LED tv mounted over the fireplace so I can watch TV while doing dishes.
I've had plenty of kitchen that didn't have a window over the sink, but certainly my preference is for a sink window. In my favorite kitchen, I had a window over the sink, which faced onto the front porch and front yard. In that same kitchen I had big double windows that looked out into the back yard. I was a young mother and it was perfect.
My husband and I have been planning a kitchen renovation and one of the proposed designs has the sink up against a windowless wall. I'd love to see a post showcasing great examples of windowless sinks!
I grew up in a house with a kitchen window and a window in the kitchen table area. I loved it.
I have lived in many apartments and not a single one had a kitchen window above the sink let alone a window in the kitchen.
Our house now has a window and since we live in the forest the view is spectacular. Which is great because we wash our dishes by hand.
A kitchen sink without a window is a deal-breaker in my real estate book.
We live in a 97 year old, falling apart, rental house. But I have a giant, drafty, needs replaced SO badly window over my sink. And it is definitely one of the best luxuries! I don't know that I could ever go back to staring at a wall again.
Like apartmenttherapy47, none of the apartments I have lived in ever had a window over the kitchen sink. Nor the house I live in now. But the house I bought has one, and I can't wait until we can move in and use it!
Our current kitchen sink has a window, but all we see is another apartment building and other people's windows (and lives). Kind of awkward. This post just reminded me that I need to buy some window film asap before the SO gets around to buying shades that will cover the sliver of sky we get along with the "if we can see them, they can see us" issue.
