This December we have invited a handful of The Kitchn's friends and fellow bloggers to share their own holiday memories and recipes with us. These guest posters will bring you holiday food from around the world and from their own cultures, and hopefully this will open up some new-to-you blog reads as well! Starting today and running until the New Year we're so pleased to invite some of our friends, new and old, to join us. Welcome!

Ooo, get someone from Japan to post their recipe for Christmas cake, please! As well as their traditional new year's dishes.
I went to school in Indiana, and it is a good pie. Try this link's recipe:

No, please, no "kurisumasu keiki"! (My romaji has always sucked, sorry if I got htat wrong.) First, I think it's a loose concept, second, I don't think they are ever home-baked, and lastly, YUCK. After living through that for a couple of years over there, it would be unpleasant to have it follow me back here.
But Japanese NY's food would be lovely. A story about eating soba on NY's for long life and then that wonderful simmered o-mochi dish. Mmm/akes me feel all warm inside just thinking about it.
