Greg just wrote to us to share his kitchen remodel, and we were totally and completely smitten. Yes, this remodel of his 83-year-old Los Angeles home took 905 days (give or take), which is a long time to be washing dishes in the bathtub. But when you see these photos we think you'll agree that it was worth it.
Greg says that he remodeled his kitchen to be much larger and more open. His architect knocked out walls to combine the original kitchen, a laundry room and an office into a large kitchen and eating area. This involved a lot of "unforeseen" issues, moving load-bearing walls and such. (Anyone who has done a full-on remodel can relate!) So the remodel stretched out for a long, long time.
But it's finally done, and it's gorgeous. We absolutely love the major splurge in the kitchen: the separate fridge and freezer. We also love the color of the cabinets and the unusual shape of the ceiling. So beautiful, and filled with that unique Los Angeles light. The kitchen also now provides a much easier way through to the lovely private garden behind the house.
You really must go see more photos of this kitchen and read all about the process, over at the blog Greg writes with his brother Grant, SippitySup.

Straw Mat from The ...

wow! gorgeous!
Fantastic. Awesome.
Astonishingly beautiful. Has this been featured in a magazine? It should be. Incredible.
I love the Okite counter and integrated sink. And the double work tables. And the beautiful red range. And the black cabinets. And everything else.
AHHH! The wall of fish plates is A-MAZING!
oh my!
That kitchen's as big as my entire apartment...
I'm still salivating....
What a beautiful kitchen. Every detail is lovely!
I know one of the architects and she is a lovely, open, thoughtful person. great job!
I'd love to know where the fish plates came from! they're gorgeous!
I just finished my own kitchen redo - and i am still insanely jealous! His kitchen isn't my style look wise but the care that has been taken to make it workable, full of storage and laid out just right is very apparent. wow.
(sighs)
This is incredible. Just because I'm jealous and I want a kitchen like this, the only thing I would have changed is to have the kitchen more square instead of rectangle. I like cooking to be a social event, and to have the table way down at the other end while you're prepping food probably makes that a tad difficult. But I also understand the architecture of the home probably prevented that.
Regardless, it's a sick kitchen.
I love the red range -- gorgeous. I can't get over the amount of storage space. I can't even imagine that in my wildest dreams. I'm so accustomed to apartment walk-throughs.
I love the architectural details of the curved ceiling and around the range hood. This is absoluely stunning.
Beautiful. I love the sculptural quality of the ceiling and vent hood.
If I were to have an erotic dream about a kitchen, this would be it.
