Benita of Chez Larsson hated the deep pull-out drawer in her kitchen until she figured out the best way to use it: she bought six IKEA Rationelle recycling bins to sort all her small kitchen items, from measuring spoons to sandwich bags.
Typically these bigger drawers are used to hold pots and pans (you may have one in your kitchen), but she didn't need it for that purpose. Now she has a neatly organized drawer for all the miscellaneous items in her kitchen. One or two of the bins, which you can buy for $3.99 at IKEA, even have a double layer (as you can see in the bottom photo) for more efficient storage.

Because of the lip and tapering these waste a lot of space. Does anyone have any other ideas? A recycled something perhaps?
Honestly? The right-sized cardboard box from your new food processor or whatever would work just as well as a plastic bin. It just needs to be the right height/width to corral a few things so you don't have to go digging through the drawer.
I like this idea. I have Ikea cabinets and one of those Rationnel bins and it looks like this is a great way to organize a deep drawer. I'm about to reorganize my cabinets, so I'll keep this in mind.
WHAT?!?!?! How can you take such a great, deep drawer and use it for what a shallow drawer is meant to do? Deep drawers are cabinet replacements, and a significant improvement at that. Put your pots & pans in there. Don't need 'em for that? Use it as a pantry, with all your big canisters of flour, sugar, etc., in there -- so much easier to grab and go. I terribly miss my kitchen with deep drawers and can't imagine them being wasted like this... sadness... and jealousy... :)
