All week I've been having oatmeal with a 'poached' egg (via the microwave) on top and garnished with some Pepper Plant hot sauce. Normally I'm a oatmeal, fruit and milk kind of gal but for some reason, this week that savory combo sounded good and I've been doing it all week long!
My better half has been eating steel cut oats, 5 grain cereal, or ten grain cereal almost daily for the last few months. He cooks it in homemade stock (chicken) with salt and pepper, fried garlic, and sometimes tops it with eggs.
He has also made us rice mixed with these cereals, some finely minced vegetables and panch phoron as a dinner pilaf.
i like oatmeal and steal cut oats both savory and sweet ... but i'm not sure about the salad-y kind. it's also good with fava beans and parm ... like risotto!
I had it for breakfast like 3 months in a row, usually with fruit I have never tried salty....
Oh yum... oatmeal is my weekend breakfast of choice. Brown sugar, blackberries and some cream on top!
I love eating oatmeal for breakfast because it makes me feel good about myself for starting the day healthy. I almost always eat it sweetened with fruits, milk... I would love to try some of the savory versions!
My kids and I eat it for breakfast every day except sundays when we have cereal!!! Plain old porridge with a sprinkle of brown sugar and a dash of milk... same every day... I don't think my mind could get more creative first thing in the morning!!! I guess we are creatures of habit!!!
Can't stand oatmeal, but this is a beautiful photo!
oatmeal, condensed milk, regular milk and beated egg. creamy and delicious, weekend favorite.
I always liked oatmeal. My parents just made regular rolled oats with raisins cooked in them so the fruit was rehydrated and soft. Now I swear by the cooks illustrated steel cut recipe. My husband was convinced that he hated all hot cereal until he tried good Irish porridge for the first time. Turns out that even something as simple as oatmeal can be a "you just haven't had it done well" kind of food.
We gave out bags of steel cut oats with a recipe as favors at our wedding. :)
mmm oatmeal... my current favorite version is with a scoop of natural peanut butter (Justin's honey PB is best I think) and banana slices mixed in. Yum :)
Steel cut oats with a spoonful of tom yam paste stirred in, for a bit of savory heat. Great for chilly mornings!
ENOUGH OATMEAL ALREADY!!!!
God knows I love oatmeal, (and that is a gorgeous picture) but please, enough.
I can't get steel-cut oats, and I'm not a fan of oatmeal served up as mush in a bowl. I do love baked oatmeal though, and have a ton of variations (blueberry, peanut butter, banana, pumpkin, maple) that I make as snack or breakfast bars.
Are those actually pansies in the picture?? Are those edible??
