If any kitchen deserves the moniker "dark and handsome," I'm pretty sure this is it. Warm and elegant, this Sag Harbor kitchen proves that dark wood, when done right, can be as modern and inviting as any light wood alternative.
The key to this beachfront kitchen, designed by Robert Bakes and Cecil Baker & Partners of Sag Harbor, New York, is a mix of rich wood tones and materials, including walnut cabinets, a 16 1/2-foot island with a white marble countertop (this lightens the look), and a hand-troweled plaster backsplash that's made to look like an old concrete wall. As House Beautiful notes, it's "modern, but not sleek," a perfect blend of rustic and industrial styles.

i would never guess all that dark wood could still appear so light-filled. i'm sure the stark white ceiling helps, as does the fact the dark is textured - not a solid colour. very handsome indeed.
This looks like a peaceful place for creating delicious food! I think the lack of other "fancy" stuff - like loud tiles or busy-patterned counter tops go a long way toward making this kitchen work.
ooooooh YES.
This. is. gawjuss! What a great contrast to the trend of all-white kitchens. I'd imagine this will wear into a glorious, rustic charm.
Now to win the lottery so I can have one of my own. Beautiful kitchen, I mean.
