Architect Mark Pellant lives in an airy, contemporary home in Hove, a town on the southern coast of England, near Brighton. The home was built using sustainable materials and renewable energy sources — a design that continues into the kitchen.

As he tells Apartment Therapy, Mark is "very influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese philosophies of simple lines and a limited palette of materials." To that end, the kitchen cabinets (made of birch ply with oak fronts) are simple and unfussy, while the countertops made of recycled glass and crushed seashells "give the look of concrete without the environmental impact," Mark says.
