The results of a national survey commissioned by Just Label It reveals that nine out of ten Americans support labeling food that contains genetically engineered or modified ingredients—a testament, they say, "to the power of our collective voices to demand our right to know what's in our food." I support this information being posted on ANY item that uses them. It's our right to know. It's our money, shouldn't we be allowed to make a choice to eat or not to eat?
The simplest way to not ingest is to support local farming, eat whole foods and do your research.
Actually that's not the case. It might not be the case *everywhere*, but GMO-free farms in Canada are being contaminated by GMO-farms and not only do the crops become GMO by 'procuration' but the companies that own the 'patent' to the GMO'ed DNA sue those farms to get paid for the use of their "special" produce. So you might be eating GMO even if you're super careful.
Christine is sadly right. Same thing happens here in the US.
Not to mention that GMOs can also be considered whole foods - A GMO tomato picked up from the produce is still a whole tomato, it still has the same nutritional profile as a non-GMO tomato (organic or not), and is still unprocessed.
