A Healthier Lunch Dessert: Chocolate Einkorn Cookies

There are choices we all make each day, some more important than others. What to have as a midday sweet probably falls in the 'not so important' camp. But that being said, having a little something sweet after lunch can do a lot in the happiness realm of things. And if that something is relatively healthy and without too much sugar? Even better.

I first tried Jovial's Chocolate Einkorn cookies a few weeks ago and found myself pleasantly surprised. If you're not familiar with einkorn, it's a species of wheat and is said to be the first kind of wheat cultivated. The ancient grain has remained largely unchanged since its cultivation thousands of years ago. Many folks consider it the original wheat for this reason, and einkorn is unique in that it hasn't been hybridized like many of the wheats our breads and crackers are made from.

All of that aside, what I really like about these cookies is the taste! They feel substantial due to the whole-grain flour, so they satisfy in a way that many crispy, airy cookies do not. And they're not at all too sweet (only 6 grams of sugar for 3 cookies). In addition, they have 3 grams of protein per serving, so they feel like a wise post-lunch choice rather than a guilty pleasure.

I know there are other einkorn products out there, from pastas to crackers and beyond. I happen to have started and stopped with the cookies. For now, anyway. Have you tried any einkorn products?
