A Gentler Nutcracker From Ralf Krämer

I've always thought of walnut-cracking as a way to work out one's frustrations in the kitchen, and a hammer as useful as a walnut-cracker to get the job done. But this sleek stainless steel mono pico walnut cracker puts the zen in nut-cracking... To use this pretty gadget designed by Ralf Krämer in 2000, just slip the point into the walnut shell seam and turn it like a key -- and presto, your walnut shell will be perfectly split in two, each half intact for decorating baked goods or other uses. It also comes on a long leather band and can be worn as a necklace when not in use! Available in Europe here and in the U.S. here. - Kristin Hohenadel blogging from Paris.
