This month, Apartment Therapy hit our one millionth Color Search, and to celebrate, we've relaunched the tool with a brand new interface that makes it even easier to find the palettes you're looking for, and to save the colors you love. Last July, we partnered with Sherwin-Williams to launch Apartment Therapy Color Search, a tool that allows you to search all of our House Tour archives by color, so you can get real-life inspiration featuring the palette of your choice. Let us show you around what we're calling Color Search 2.0 and tell you how we see it changing your life.
1. New palette options
You can now select your search colors from two palettes: "Popular House Tour Colors," which we pulled from thousands of archival images of real-life homes, and "2015 Trend Forecast," colors pulled from the 2015 Sherwin-Williams color forecast which they see as particularly popular this year. You can pull colors from both palettes any time you search. There's also still the option to further customize your search colors by clicking inside a color bar and selecting the exact hue and saturation you're looking for.
We'll be updating the palettes periodically throughout the year with seasonal colors and other trending colors, so stay tuned!
2. Bigger results images
We've made the Color Search page wider and cleaner, allowing more room for your beautiful search results and making it easier to find what you're looking for.
3. Find the paint colors in a new pop-up window
When you click on a photo you like, a window will pop up over the Color Search page showing you the full image along with the specific color palette found in that image.
This new results window offers a few different options. If you love that palette, you can now save the image and its colors for later – you can pin it to your Pinterest board, send an email to yourself or a friend, or text the results so you have the info on your phone. This way, you'll always be able to find both your inspiration image and the real-life Sherwin-Williams paint colors that match it.
Another option is to start a new color search using the specific colors from your result image ("Search Colors"). The palette from your result image may not be an exact match to your original search – our tool returns the closest palettes and then analyzes each result image for its most accurate colors.
Finally, you can always click the link below "See the Post" to go to the original post the image was found in, since you never know when you're going to find that one House Tour that speaks directly to your soul.
4. One thing about the email and text options
We won't save or share any email addresses or phone numbers from this tool, just so you know.
5. Even more images
When we first began concepting this tool, the idea was to open up our archive of original House Tours – 10 years of them! – and make it easier for you, our readers, to access them. But the beautiful real-life inspiration we offer on Apartment Therapy isn't limited to our House Tours. To the thousands of images in the Color Search database, we've added photos published in our popular annual contests, including Small Cool and Room for Color. By expanding the pool of images that you can search by color, we're making it easier for you to find your dream color inspiration.
6. Sherwin-Williams store locator
With our new search results, you can find the actual Sherwin-Williams paint colors that match the photos you love. We've included a store locator right on the page – and in the emails and texts you send yourself – to make it even easier to take your search from inspiration to reality.
7. Saving the world, one room at a time
We hope you enjoy using our Color Search tool as much as we do. You can look at paint chips all day long, but when you see real color in action in a home, that's when you are able to turn your dreams into colorful action. It is our goal to help you make your home more beautiful and happy, and we've always thought that adding color is one of the quickest, cheapest and easiest ways to make a major impact.
