French toast and waffles are both breakfast classics, but what happens when you combine the two? Great things, actually.

This French toast takes its flavor inspiration from apple pie. First you soak your bread slices in a batter of applesauce, half-and-half, egg, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Then, instead of pan-frying your French toast on the stovetop, you cook it in your waffle iron.

The beauty of this dish is that you get all the flavor of French toast with the nooks and crannies of waffles (ideal for syrup-catching). If that's not the best of both worlds, I don't know what is.
