OK, OK — we are certifiably crazy about food in jars. We've talked about salad in jars, cobbler in jars, and even gift recipes in jars. Now here's one more: a complete BBQ lunch in a jar!
And seriously, this is a fabulous idea for a picnic. You load up a jar in layers: First baked beans, then coleslaw, and then pulled barbecued meat on top. You could bring a stack of cornbread along, or some homemade bread. Supplement with a jar of cold homemade lemonade and you have a great little picnic — all in jars!

Eww. I love the idea in theory but those things getting sort of mixed is too much for my stomach.
Yes, it is good for people who don't mind that their food is touching :P
Those pictured also seem like pretty big jars, enough to feed two.
Very unappealing (and I don't mind my food "touching").
I think it looks delicious. And I could definitely eat that much :)
Okay, that just looks gross to me. Too many flavors mixed together. And what is up with that lemonade? It looks like milk!
Barbecue of that sort is MEANT to be eaten with coleslaw on top. A bbq sandwich where I'm from automatically comes with slaw on top. I'm not a baked bean fan, so I wouldn't want the bottom part, but I can't see my Southern father turning his head up at this mix. (Well, he eats pie off his dinner plate, so he's a poor example. But my picky siblings would be fine with this.)
I think it LOOKS really nice, but I wouldn't want to have to eat all my BBQ to get to my coleslaw, then all the coleslaw to get to the beans. I like to alternate.
But the presentation is pretty! Instead, I think I'd use this technique for serving several - put all my BBQ in one jar, Coleslaw in another, beans in a third - then spoon them out to everyone on a plate or take-out container.
Would be especially good for things like lemonade or other things that you might want to shake up before serving.
I LOVE this. I am totally doing this for my next picnic. Although I might scale it down to a pint jar!
The idea is interesting, but I can't see enjoying this - I hate when my coleslaw gets warm.
Very disgusting and worn out idea. The BBQ vending circuit attempted to sell it as a "BBQ Sundae" - ick.
I, too, wouldn't like having to eat all the meat first to get to the beans and slaw! I wonder, could one lay the jar on it's side and layer that way? So then one could have access to each item at the top and bottom?
I think putting some cubes of cornbread in there would be yummy, too.
So yeah, neat idea, but I think it would be better with salad than bbq.
I think it's much more practical (probably better for the environment, and definitely easier to re-heat) than plastic containers. Although very heavy to cart around. I do like this trend of things in jars, it does seem to be becoming rather wide-spread... think I liked it more when it was a little more unusual!
While I love coleslaw with BBQ, I'm not too keen on the BBQ Trifle idea. Maybe this could work better with a wider-mouthed jar, if there is such a thing.
Aimi - the link says that the lemonade was made with honey which must be giving it the denser color.
i agree with percent here-- pulled pork is MADE to have coleslaw on top! if you eat it without it, you're eating it wrong :)
Considering that the BBQ jar is something that me and my friends used to do at high school, I'm quite partial to this.
Then again, I'm from north Florida, right near Alabama and Georgia meet at the Chattahoochee, this is old skool.
Clearly these people don't get it! it's about Layering! If you don't like your foods touching then Mason jar meals aren't for you
