Space-challenged grillers, listen up. Stop denying yourselves that summer smoky flavor, even if you don't have a backyard parking space for a grill.
We've been testing this charcoal bucket grill ($34.95) by Sagaform as featured in the June issue of Bon Appetit, and we like it.
We were wary at first. Out of the box, this fern green grill feels wimpy and looks more like something you'd trot down to the beach to build sandcastles.
But as we carried the bucket grill back and forth from our apartment to the roof, we came to appreciate how light it is. The bucket-style handle makes it easy to move and the grill handle folds in for easy storage.
It only works well if you're grilling for two or three, but it sure is better than missing out on grilling entirely. This tuna from Blue Moon Fish at the Grand Army Plaza farmer's market cooked up on our new grill was our favorite feast of the season so far. Happy Outdoor Home Month!
Note: Obviously, this grill is for outdoor use only. We keep an old wine bottle full of water at the ready right next to our grill, just in case.
Straw Mat from The ...

I like the idea of this. Small, portable, and with a low center of gravity. It seems very expensive for what it is though.
I went to a public park last weekend with friends and the grills there were not maintained and the grill stand was almost totally rusted off its base. Made for some precarious grilling. We could've totally used this.
This seems like a great idea.
However, I have to wonder what the pail is coated with, and what, if any, byproduct might risk contaminating the food (even if it is only in small quantities)? They are probably using a heat resistant powder-coat paint, but I still wonder since it is in close contact with items which will be consumed....
I like the idea and there are other type portable grills along this vein, though they may not be as easy to tote though, however, I have been using a Weber gas portable grill for 3 years now and it works great and also does well on the balcony of my apartment. I have it on a metal folding table for ease of use.
However it may need a new regulator and it definately needs a new flame shield as the one in there now is beginning to rust through.
I recently bought Lodge Sportsman's grill and love it. It's heavier than some (it's cast iron), but the grill marks are beautiful and it stays evenly hot for a very long time. Granted, I only grill vegetables on it, but the reviewers on Amazon are all pleased with how it grills meat, too.
We have a toolox grill I got on amazon. The top can close to smother the fire, and it works pretty well.
