It's amazing how far you can stretch your kitchen renovation dollar when taking the DIY route. That's how this kitchen makeover was achieved for only $1,449:
Even though the kitchen was not at all to their liking when they were considering purchasing the house, this couple purchased anyway with the thought of renovating it right away. And boy, did they! Even with all new countertops (gorgeous butcher block ones at that), bead board backsplash, lighting, flooring, partial cabinetry, paint (on walls and cabinets), sink and faucet, they came in on budget at only $1,449! The key here was DIY industriousness, which is truly inspiring.

Martha Concrete Lam...

Those countertops are gorgeous!
Wow, that's a good one, but I can't believe they kept it a virtual secret for 2 years before posting the photos!
I'm doing my reno bit-by-bit, also DIY on a strict budget, so materials are stacking up in the garage as I find bargains (sink, faucet, lighting, appliances). Love that they shared their resources! (I've haunted most of the same)
what the...i've seen this exact kitchen before, on this website, or maybe on AT. still cute though.
@jess13 do you use pinterest? the shot of the sink (photo #2) has been floating around there for weeks.
Yeah, hasn't this been posted before?
Wow- that countertop is GORGEOUS.
@jess13 - you are not crazy...I've definitely seen this somewhere before, but it's been a while so it was probably around the time she originally posted it on her blog. Can't remember where, I remember being impressed overall but thinking I would not want to stand on that brick floor cooking for an extended period of time.
Yeah, it was on AT earlier this year. Still, very cute, but when a renovation comes in $1 under a price point, I hardly consider it a "bargain".
Kitchen renovations can be very expensive, like tens of thousands of dollars expensive. This DIY kitchen makeover really made a big difference. I'm impressed. It looks great. Amazing what some paint can do.
i like the new orientation of the cabinet hardware. you did a good job of really updating and modernizing the cabinets without replacing them! ...and the white really brightens up the room!
i also like that the microwave is in the pantry. microwaves are such an eye-sore, i lived quite fine without one for a year, but it certainly comes in handy sometimes now that we got a free hand-me-down from the landlords downstairs!
I just joined this site today, is every other comment negative or just the articles I read comments on? Jeez people, why so much negativity? It looks nice and if you've seen it before lots(including myself) haven't. Let us enjoy it,please...
That seems like a new fridge, taller, different handle configuration. Was that figured into the $1449?
Nice bright fresh change.
@GingerTrail: not one person has said anything really negative about this kitchen, so what are you talking about?
despite what you may think comments are allowed to be good or bad. everything can't be sunshine and skittles right?
btw if you think these are 'negative' you better put on your helmet, it gets a little nuts around here sometimes!
Therese Z - I wondered the same thing. In the blog it states that the new fridge was a gift from her in-laws.
$1449 is a bargain for everything that they did!
Very nice... I love the countertops!
Great design + cool color palette + smartc use of existing materials - mondo bucks = a formula for success. Tasty!
