Spring can sneak up on one in New York City; the moment sunny, warm weather arrives everyone magically appears on the street in shorts, summer dresses, and sandals. Don't they need to switch out their clothing from under the bed (where, due to space constraints, my summer clothing resides in cooler months)? With the same urgency, suddenly it feels imperative to drink lemonade. As in now. That's why you'll want to know this shortcut to a glass of lemonade.

Wine of the Week: 2010 Tibouren Clos Cibonne “Cuvée des Vignettes” Cru Classé
Region: Côtes de Provence, France
Price: $30
I just love rosé wine.
Can’t get enough really and am always on the look out for the tasty everyday rosé
as well the one for special occasions. This 2010 Clos Cibonne Tibouren
“Cuvée des Vignettes” from Provence at $30 is pricey but definitely worth the
splurge for a special dinner or treat. This is a wonderfully serious rosé
— complex, beautifully structured, contemplative and elegant — worthy of its
price tag.
Q: I just bought a large container of sumac because I wanted to make fattoush salad and it was the only size I could get my hands on at the time. It was delicious, but now I have a lot of leftover sumac. Any suggestions on what to use some of it for?

MoreMarisa and Peter's remodeled Venice Beach, California kitchen is a joy — colorful, playful, eclectic, and a far cry from the outdated 80s linoleum-and-oak space it was before.

I've never made bagels at home. They fall into the category of things that I like to buy from people who do them well. Good bagels are really good, and I figure that supporting the people who have it mastered is a smart move. That is, until I saw this recipe for granola bagels. I may have been convinced to give them a try myself! I mean, come on. Chocolate chip granola bagels?
So.... Kohlrabi. Yeah. It's a little out there as far as the pantheon of commonly known vegetables goes. It's somewhat reminiscent of broccoli stems. It looks a bit like a space alien. And I can count on one hand the number of times I've cooked with it. Do you find kohlrabi a little weird, too? Let's discuss.
MoreFresh goat cheese, fresh ricotta, and cream cheese. They all serve a purpose, and each has its place. There's one cheese that I believe combines the best elements of each of these three fresh cheeses. It can sometimes be a bit elusive, but it's so worth the hunt. It's my go-to cheese this time of year: all at once light, tangy, and creamy, like no other cheese around.
Gift registries are a big topic of debate these days. Some brides and grooms to be are accused of being greedy, with taste beyond their means. When we got married nearly 16 years ago, I didn't want to register. We had one of those small weddings that happen after a quick two-week engagement because the couple is in...ahem...a bit of a hurry. I changed my mind about registering a few days into our brief engagement, after a call from a local shop showed me that I was making life difficult for some goodhearted, dear friends of my parents and grandparents.
Yesterday I checked out the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, an annual trade show highlighting what's new in design. It's not a kitchen-focused show, but I like going to see what's exciting for the dining room. A big reveal at this year's show was the brand-new Stockholm dining table and chairs from IKEA, made of walnut and due in stores in August! See more photos below:
