5 Tips to Help You Get the Most out of That Carton of Yogurt

Yogurt is one of those foods that has a permanent place in my fridge. Not only is yogurt flavorful, but it's also seriously versatile. Here are five tips to help you get the most out of this fridge staple.

1. Use yogurt in place of heavy cream to thicken soup.

If you're going for a lush and creamy homemade soup, yogurt can help you get there. Once the soup is finished cooking, remove the pot from the heat and stir in an equal amount of full-fat plain or Greek yogurt.

2. Greek yogurt makes an ideal sour cream substitute.

Need a substitute for sour cream? Go ahead and reach for the same amount of plain-flavored Greek yogurt. Although slightly more tangy, whole-milk Greek yogurt is closest in taste and texture to sour cream.

3. If you plan on freezing it, use full-fat yogurt.

Whether you're using regular, Greek, or any other type of yogurt, stick with full-fat when making frozen yogurt, yogurt pops, or yogurt bites. You'll get a rich taste and better texture for it. Just as you wouldn't use skim milk when making ice cream, it's best to skip non-fat and low-fat for frozen yogurt.

4. Frozen yogurt bark makes a great breakfast.

There's no denying just how delicious peppermint-chocolate bark is, but sometimes we just crave something a little lighter. For an equally delicious sweet treat, use yogurt, honey, and vanilla to make a frozen yogurt bark studded with fruit and nuts.

5. Making your own yogurt is easy to do at home.
