The temperature has dropped just about everywhere in the U.S (even here in California!) and there's definitely a chill in the air. There's nothing more comforting than snuggling up with a warm and cozy bowl of stew for dinner.
Stew can be made from just about anything depending on your preferences. It doesn't matter if you're a sea or land lover — you can throw anything you'd like in there. Lamb is becoming ever so popular recently and the Lamb and Leek Hotpot from Greedy Gourmet and Indian Lamb Stew from Pham Fatale sounds seriously delicious and so easy to make.
If you're not a fan of lamb, there's always the Winter Vegetable Moroccan Stew from Have Recipes Will Cook. You can easily adapt it to include any meat of your choice. Here are some great options:
• Lamb and Leek Hotpot, Greedy Gourmet
• Curried Chicken Stew, Cooking In Sens
• Seafood Curry Laksa, Ang Sarap

I just made my first pot of stew for the season on Sunday. Having leftovers tonight. Perfect on cold, dark nights.
All but one of these are curry based. Not the best list if you're not a fan of curry flavors. There's so many kinds of great stews not represented here!
Made Hungarian Goulash on Sunday, having leftovers tonight. I think stew is good the first day, even better the next.
It's been seriously chilly here in Tucson too and, while not technically a stew I do have a pot roast just about ready to come out of the oven.
I remember the first time we had beef stew in the college cafeteria and everyone looked at me funny when I spooned it onto a plate instead of into a bowl and broke up the potatoes to soak up the sauce. Stews are more than just chunky soup people!
agree with you jmorri - I don't like curry really so was disappointed with this list. :/ anyone else have good stew recipes past curry and normal beef stew?
I'm a bit disappointed for a different reason-- only one vegetarian stew mentioned, and the author suggests adding meat to it? Sad.
Maybe stews aren't traditionally vegetarian (?), but you can definitely create a good, hearty stew without meat. Bob's Red Mill's recipe for Borlotti (Cranberry) Beans & Kale is brilliant-- I've been eating the leftovers all week!
