Turkey Day is right around the corner and if you don't have a roasting pan don't worry — there are plenty to be had. Even better is that there really is a roasting pan for every budget.
For those folks who like more high-end cookware there's Calphalon — the ever trusty company that has never done me wrong (I inherited a rather expensive roasting pan from my mother-in-law). The prices for that one start around $90 but if you can swing the expense it is definitely worth it.
However, before I was lucky enough to inherit such an expensive piece, I used the roasting pan from IKEA and honestly — it's perfectly capable of roasting up a beautiful chicken!

TW Salt Mill by Wil...

Does anybody know when to use a roasting pan with a lid and when to use one without a lid? I purchased a roasting pan for to roast my tandoori Thanksgiving turkey (awesome) last month, and I was confused by the lidded and non-lidded variety of pans.
Also the 5 qt. Le Creuset Roasting pan in a variety of colors for $200 :)
We just bought a Calphalon set at Bed Bath and Beyond last weekend (a roaster, rack, lifters and a baster) on sale for $79.99 (or $64 with the ubiquitous 20% coupons!).
Just check that the Ikea one doesn't have a mote that runs along the sides. Stuff falls in there and it makes making the gravy very difficult. I wish I had thought of this before I bought it.
I also use the roasting pan to mix fruit cake (no bowl is large enough.) So I looked for high, smooth, sloping sides and sturdy enough to handle 10 pounds of brandied fruit, nuts and batter. Mine is from Target ($12?) and has lasted for 5 years.
Just looked at that 9.99 ikea one it's tiny.
Length: 10 1/4 " Width: 7 7/8 " Height: 2 1/8 "
There is a bigger one, but it is pretty shallow. We decided to go with a $13 rectangle granite ware one from target.
