For entertaining or even everyday sipping, there's something quite fun and elegant about popping a straw into a glass of lemonade or a cocktail. However, like shopping bags and water bottles, we've ditched the disposable, plastic versions. Instead, we're enamored of these cool, reusable straws, from sleek stainless to rustic bamboo and sparkling glass…

Red-and-Pink-Stripe...

my sister gave me the stainless steel straws and I love them! I thought they would bother my teeth at first but not at all. Need to order some more! Great for homemade iced coffee and smoothies!
most of these "straws" where invented for drinking mate. they are called bombilla. especially the metal and the bamboo. they have been around from before the spanish concurred las americas. so it never would occur to me to use them for anything else but mate. but now i am intrigued, i will try and see how lemonade does! haha
I bought the stainless steel ones a while ago and love them!
I just prefer my beverage with a straw but felt bad wasting and drinking through plastic.
the stainless ones have been discontinued.
How do you keep them clean if you don't have a dishwasher?
I have the first set of stainless steel straws as well as a glass straw with a filter at the bottom for loose leaf tea, coffee and juice with pulp. They both work out very well and save me from buying tons of plastic straws. For anyone interested I just bought them a few weeks ago from reuseit.com. A note of caution with the metal straws, be careful using them with very hot and very cold drinks for obvious reasons.
I have these: http://www.amazon.com/Handy-House-Stainless-Drinking-Straws/dp/B0036ZH5KO/ref=pd_sim_k_2
I typically don't use them with smoothies so I just run soap and water through them. You might try these http://www.amazon.com/Sippy-Straw-Cleaner-KA-0809/dp/B00386KEEK for more heavy-duty cleaning
@falnfenix The ones at Always Brilliant have been discontinued, but they're still available at After 5.
Sweet!
I remember growing up we didn't really have disposable plastic straws at the house, which always seemed like such an undue waste. Rather, we had those reusable thick plastic ones; they usually had a big curled middle section so you could watch your drink swirl up & around to get to the top and reach your mouth. Anyone else remember those?
So glad there are more sophisticated (and plastic-free) options out there.
7-11 has reusable straws for 99 cents each. They're meant for Slurpees (the logo is on the straw), so they're perfect for smoothies and iced coffee. I wash them by hand with soap and hot water.
@sagekitten85 I got a set of sippy straw brushes on Amazon as a filler item for free shipping. It works really well!
