Carriage house conversions always catch my imagination, leading me to daydream about living in a cozy little relic from days gone by. And the room I most often picture in those daydreams? Why, the kitchen, of course!
Be it an ultra-modern take on an historic building type or a nod to the period, here are five kitchens that bring old carriage houses to the level of a comfy home. They're also great studies in small-space (generally one-sided galley) kitchens.

Martha Concrete Lam...

Cute (esp. #1 and #2), but I have to say that I adamantly do not covet #3. The proportions look very strange!
I used to live in the most adorable carriage house in Port Townsend, WA. The surrounding gardens were amazing. It had a little fireplace, and everything was the perfect size for one person. Even a decent sized closet. The kitchen was the best part though. It was in the middle of the house and you could see out every window in the place from the kitchen. It was so well laid out.
Sigh, I keep day dreaming over #1 on Redfin, it's a carriage house attached to a gorgeous MCM house...right under the freeway. :(
I used to live in a carriage house. If it looked remotely like any of these, nothing would have made me move. That being said, it was in an unbeatable location at an unbeatable price so lack of aesthetic was forgiven.
Love #1 and #2. The rest of them . . . not so much.
