It's sweet, sweet strawberry season, and I've been buying pints of tiny berries no bigger than my thumb at the market, slicing off their tops and eating them whole. I am loving strawberries right now. Some of my favorites: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/05/national-strawberries-and-cream-day.html I do no added sugar, low carb cooking/eating (health reasons) so the natural summer sweetness of strawberries is big time celebrated at my house.
These look great! I love Smitten Kitchen's strawberry cake, as well as Dorie Greenspan's recipe for La Palette's strawberry tart.
We also love Dorie's La Palette's strawberry tart!
Strawberries have been plentiful at our farmer's market and I can't get enough of them. I always buy extra to prep at the same time and freeze. I've already made strawberry rhubarb pie, strawberry rhubarb double crisp (another Dorie Greenspan recipe), and last weekend I tried Cook's Country's Strawberry Pretzel Bars that are the perfect sweet and salty dessert.
I hope to do some jam this weekend.
we're long past strawberry season here in florida. I always make sure to pick extra and freeze them. Though my freezer stash never makes it through to next strawberry season. the one thing I make sure to do with the berries is Jam.
I'm so happy that we're starting to get strawberries at the farmers market, because they're so much better than the driscoll ones at the supermarket. I love them with rhubarb in mini pies and in strawberry rhubarb fool. For a savory treat, I love them with goat cheese on bread as a tapas.
That strawberry sorbet almost made me lick my screen. Must try it.
I love strawberries, but last week I made a dairy and gluten-free strawberry shortcake dessert and 20 minutes after eating I broke out in hives all over my back, stomach, neck and scalp. They didn't go away for 24 hrs. Needless to say I won't be enjoying any strawberry desserts any time soon :-(
Thanks, very timely as we have a glut to use up.
My mother-in-law's strawberry freezer jam is the stuff my dreams are made of...I would try making it myself, but the strawberries from her garden just taste better.
Strawberry Rhubarb Jam! I just made some the other day - delicious;) http://reformedfoodie.com/2012/06/01/recipe-strawberry-rhubarb-jam/
My favourite strawberry recipe is:
Buy / pick strawberries
Wash
Dry
Serve
Agree with StationeryFiend! But I have been known to buy too many when the FINALLY arrive at the farmer's market (I am not a fan of the imports--look great, taste like nothing). When I have too much of a good thing, strawberry quick bread, strawberry rhubarb pie or crisp, and strawberry coulis to freeze until it's hot enough to be eating ice cream around here are what I make. I'm sure we'll be trying some strawberry sandwiches this weekend, too. I don't like to fuss too much with them.
Thank you! I foolishly bought a 2 pound pack of strawberries at Trader Joe's last night, only because it was so comically large, and my 4 year old loves strawberries.
I loooooove this strawberry flatbread: http://joythebaker.com/2011/06/strawberry-balsamic-flatbread/
