All right people -- listen up! Real live summer peaches are just beginning to hit the markets. Have you eaten a ripe peach yet this July? In my opinion, the best way to eat the first sweet and tangy summer peach is all by itself, over the sink, with juice running down your wrist. If you haven't experienced that moment yet, why the delay? It would be a crime to miss the moment.
And in the off chance you need a smidge of extra motivation to enjoy the all-too-brief peach season, here are 15 more reasons to buy a pound of peaches this week -- from a whiskey peach smash, to peach and almond ice cream, to tea-spiced muffins, to gluten-free peach crisp. There's a creamy peach semifreddo, and peach and pecan crumble bars too.

Bacsac Bacsquare 04...

I often find myself regretting in fall that I didn't eat enough peaches in summer. not this year! our small household has so far gone through two of the $5 boxes at TJs and I'm going back for more.
this week I know I'm making sunset magazine's peach, mint and curry dressing caprese salad:

when the link to the peach semifreddo is fixed I'll get started on that, too...
We are so fortunate to live 10 minutes from South Carolina, the 2nd most prolific peach state behind California. We started enjoying gorgeous peaches in May and will have them through September. I go to a few stands that publish long lists of what peaches are ready when, and it's delicious fun to compare red peaches vs. white vs. yellow. And at 99 cents a pound there's no reason not to indulge. My husband cans peach chutney and peach butter for gifts, and we'll also have peach ginger preserves. He's a peach, too! :-)
What an amazing collection. I've become quite a peach monster this summer...and just cant stop baking with these babies!
Utah peaches are amazing! They are one of my favorite parts of summer and I dream of them in January:) That peach arugula salad is on the menu for tonight. Another favorite is grilled peaches with some goat cheese on top, and drizzled with a thick, sweet balsamic.
What a great round-up! I knew peach season was coming up and I do have a lack of recipes. So glad to see what you put together here. I'm bookmarking this! Thanks for sharing! Happy mid-summer!
Awesome! I just bought a bushel and a half from a local farm. What the 10 of us don't eat I was going to freeze for winter. This will mean a few less to freeze, but a lot of good eating now. Thanks!
I agree...there's nothing better than eating a fresh, juicy peach on its own and walking away happily messy. That being said, there are many of these recipes that I would love to try with the pile of peaches sitting on my counter.
Oooh! My son asked me to make some peach and blueberry hand pies yesterday - they were so good... and now we get to try some more recipes. Thanks!
Farm-fresh New Jersey peaches are the best.
Even if I do have to peel them (now that I discovered this season I'm allergic to peach skin. and cherries. /cry)
This post makes me so sad. I bought a bunch of white and yellow peaches from the farmers market this weekend, and even though they looked beautiful and ripe, they turned out to be absolutely flavorless. Such a bummer.
I end up buying a bunch, slicing them up and making a peach blueberry pie filling with a little sugar, flour and salt. Freeze in ziplock bags and I can have glorious summer peach pie in November.
There's something about peaches and blueberries, so perfect together!
The Midwest was struck by a warm spring that ruined our peach crop :( I soothed my sadness with a Peach Gin Fizz

I had a juicy South Carolina peach in my Greek yogurt this morning :)
I have to laugh at buying a pound of peaches. Sometimes just 1 peach will weigh close to 1 pound!
I long for South Carolina peaches.... long for them. It's a bit difficult to find good ones in the Boston area as they tend to be picked well before they are ripe so they travel. Yes, they can ripen in a bag on the counter, but it's nothing like getting them ripe off the tree.
I had some peaches getting too ripe, so I made a peach and chocolate crisp with an amaretti-style topping. Delicious!
