Yesterday Dana suggested serving heavily garnished salads on a platter instead of in a bowl to prevent heavier ingredients from falling to the bottom. Inspired by that suggestion, I went searching for beautiful, unusual serving platters. No plain white platters here!
There are white platters in this list, but as you can see they all have something a little special about them - the jagged shape of Diane von Furstenberg's brushstoke platter, for example, with its striking gold rim, or the footed stoneware platter from Leili Art & Design, featuring an array of black constellation-inspired dots. Otherwise you'll find a collection of textured, patterned platters, from stoneware to porcelain, in an array of designs. Do you have a favorite?

I dig the constellation platter!
Pro: flat platters take up less space in a dishwasher
Con: flat platters have a high tabletop to salad ratio, so normal size bowl vs ginormous platter.
Since I don't have a ginormous table, I'll stick to my bowls.
*_* some of these plates are so pretty... I don't think i'd be able to eat from them
Wow, $230 for a plate from Anthropologie that looks like it was made by a 5 year old as a failed art project. Reminds me of the classic etsy or anthropologie.
The apple platter with the matt black glaze could have a lead content or other toxic component. I would avoid that.
