It's definitely getting to be cookie-baking season and we couldn't be more excited! There are so many possibilities when it comes to baking cookies and a great place to start is with cookie cutters. You no longer have to stick to traditional Christmas trees and gingerbread men. There are some amazing options out there to wow your friends and family.
Whether you're looking to spend $1.00 or $45.00, the options are seriously fun. On the less traditional side, we really like the Färg Form Elk Cookie Cutter while the Ingenious Cookie Cutter Set is unique and innovative.

the eyes on that elk cutter are hilarious!
I love most of these! I have the half eaten gingerbread men. They're very fun but the manufacturer makes them so darn thick metal (like think pencil lead thick) that you can't get crisp sharp edges. More of that smooshy edge. They do get a laugh when piped with screaming or sad faces!
I'm sort of a traditionalist when it comes to cookie shapes-- I like stars, circles, squares if they're shortbread-ish.
That said, I do have a hippo cookie cutter stashed away someplace.
The gingerbread cutters would make a great gift for someone else, but you don't need a special cutter to make them for yourself at home. Just use a regular gingerbread man cookie cutter and the fluted edge of a tart pan to create the "bites" wherever you want. I do it all the time.
Same goes for the cookies designed to hook onto the rim of a mug or glass. Just take a sharp knife and cut your own notch into your favorite cutouts. :)
I'm looking forward to this weekend. Since we finally got something resembling a cold snap here, I'm going to use both my regular gingerbread men cookie cutters, and the ABC ones I snagged on Perpetual Kid last year. Just to mess with everyone's heads, I'm going to put them all on the same tray, and watch my coworkers' heads implode!
I found the giant rack of cookie cutters at Bulk Barn recently. They seem to have cookie cutters in nearly every shape (and the perfect prices for my budget). I settled on a nice skull and crossbones, but I'll be back for more!
