It's hard to be in a bad mood in a kitchen. You can make anything you want to make in that room: sweet treats for a friend, a satisfying meal for your family, coffee for your own sleepy head. For us, the kitchen is a haven — a safe space where you make the rules.

Any kitchen is a happy room, and these, from various house tours on Apartment Therapy, are especially cheery. Check them out! It's basically impossible to be grumpy in any of these spaces.

1. A Modern, Vintage Houston "Tree House"

When owners Judy and Don renovated their Houston, Texas, home they made a bold decision to flip things around and put the kitchen and living rooms on the second floor. This way, they'd be able to look out at the tops of the trees as they hung out and entertained. The unique choice paid off and the kitchen truly is the heart of the cheery home.

2. Tammy's "Turquoise Whimsy" Room

"I love blue and especially turquoise, which is a very calming yet uplifting color because of the yellow it contains," says Tammy of her kitchen in Israel. She balanced out the bold cabinets with silver tiles, bright yellows and greens, and blonde wood.

3. A Vaulted & Vibrant Home in Los Angeles

Vaulted ceilings are going to get us every time. Airiness equals happiness — it's simple science, people. Add in clean white cabinets and that funky backsplash and you have a kitchen that's begging to make you smile.

4. Danielle's Bright & Multifunctional Top Floor Apartment

The best thing about this kitchen is that it proves you don't have to have a giant, gut-renovated room in order to live with a kitchen you love. It was a challenge for renter Danielle to create enough counter and storage space, but she's pulled it off in a way that's fun and functional. Plus, yellow!

5. Jamie's Wild Blue Yonder

This Chicago, Illinois, rental got a happiness boost with lots (and lots) of color. Specifically, the main walls, which are painted with Botanical Tint by Sherwin Williams. All the accessories provide a rainbow of grin-worthy touches.

6. Faye & Dave's Amazingly Artistic, Colorfully Patterned U.K. Home

There's something inherently fun about an eclectic kitchen, and this one is no exception. Here are all the reasons it makes us smile: the tiled island, the open floor plan, the wacky sideboard-turned-countertop, the light, the wide floors ... the list really does go on and on.

7. Kristen's Palm Beach-Inspired Home in Burbank

Plants in the kitchen are always a yes in our book — even if that means plant-centric wallpaper, and especially if that means plant-centric wallpaper that also covers the ceiling.

8. A Modern Makeover of a Martha's Vineyard Cottage

Just look at all that natural light! Even if it's cloudy out, this space is sure to be bright and cheery, thanks to all that white — and the happy, kid-drawn artwork.

9. Tom & Allison's Amazing DIY House of Reclaimed & Unusual Objects

When you fill a house with reclaimed and unusual finds, everything reminds you of an adventure. Even if you know how Tom and Allison found their vintage double oven (Craigslist!), you can bet there's a story behind it. Just one look and you can just tell this sunny (with actual sun and also yellow paint!) kitchen is full of love and life.

10. Jeff & Joseph's Silver Lake Bungalow

We love it when a kitchen opens up to the outside. Also, the rest of this kitchen (with that ceiling! And those cabinets! And the lounge area off to the side!) isn't bad either.
