Starting the party or meal off right is essential, but sometimes the idea of making multiple appetizers can be overwhelming. These appetizers come together in 10 minutes or less and leave you time to focus on the rest of the meal.

I would love some new ideas for non-dairy appetizers beyond hummus and guac. There's a strong "cheese + something crunchy" theme to most appetizers.
@Katy Did - Depending on your level of lactose intolerance, there are some brands of yogurt-based cheese around. I found some at a local Amish Farmer's Market in South Jersey, that not only taste great, but YAY CHEESE!
Unfortunately, if you're avoiding cheese because of veganism, I can't help there. :(
I second the non-dairy appetizers. Cheese + something and deviled eggs are so overdone.
I'd eat cheese all day if it didnt increase my waistline. The more the merrier I say!
oh! yummy!
Who knew that one of my favorite all-time snacks when growing up could be a fancy appetizer? My mom taught us how to enjoy raw whole radishes with Nicaraguan cream and salt. Then again, we eat everything with Nicaraguan cream. Yum!
Katy Did., some ideas off the top of my head:
- edamame blitzed in the food processor with a splash of mirin and a bit of sesame oil. Serve with crackers or crudites
- crostini of avocado tossed with salt and lemon juice
- this super-fast vegan artichoke dip [self-link]
- tapenade (homemade or store-bought) with crackers or bread
- I love romesco sauce as a dip! If you use purchased roasted peppers, it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to whip together. Make it good and thick, serve with focaccia or crackers and some crudites. (I also use it to top simple bean dip, which makes a great combination of flavors, but you did specify not hummus.)
I have a couple of quick dippy type nibbles.
I just made a white bean dip with almonds, garlic and capers. It's creamy but vegan, and really delicious. Super quick if you have a can of good white beans in the house.
And I know I've mentioned this one before, but I make a killer tapenade. Mellowed by pine nuts, balsamic, roasted garlic, herbs and parmesan. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
And I think I've mentioned this before, to, but there are lots of ways to make a can of chickpeas into a tasty dip that go beyond hummus, and are quick as can be.
Oh, and big seconds for romesco sauce! So good! And you can slice a baguette into thin slices, brush with a little olive oil, and toast, for nice dipping crackers.
I'm allergic to milk products and I've found that Tofutti cream cheese and sour cream are great substitutes for anything that calls for those in recipes. Most people can't even taste the difference, as long as there's a little bit of flavor added.
